A Memorable Visit: The Mayor of Salford at the Lancastrian Theatre Organ Trust Heritage Centre
In 2008, the Lancastrian Theatre Organ Trust (LTOT) Heritage Centre in Peel Green experienced a day to remember when it welcomed Margaret Morris the then Mayor of Salford. This special occasion brought together music lovers and civic leaders to celebrate the rich heritage of theatre organ music.
The Heritage Centre at Peel Green renowned for preserving and showcasing vintage theatre organs served as the perfect backdrop for the Mayor’s visit. The event was further enhanced by the presence of David Ivory a talented and esteemed organist who was the guest player on the day. David delighted the audience with a beautiful repertoire of music for the occasion.
David also kindly provided a wonderful photograph to commemorate the event. In the photo Margaret Morris can be seated at the Compton Organ along with David. Her visit underscored the importance of cultural heritage and the role organisations like LTOT play in keeping it alive.
The Heritage Centre continues to stand as a testament to the artistry and craftsmanship of theatre organs, drawing visitors from all walks of life to experience their magic. Margaret Morris’s visit was not only a highlight of 2008 but also a reminder of the timeless appeal of these majestic instruments.
A special thank you to David Ivory for sharing his memories and contributing to this piece of local history. Moments like these shine a light on the value of community, music, and heritage.
Do you have more memories or photographs of the LTOT? We’d love to hear from you!
